Character name: Kurtam
Class: Rogue

Why do you want to join the Cult?: Been off WoW for a while, want RP. Besides, I was already in this guild before and it's all cool!
How did you come to learn about the Cult: Been here.
Anything else you'd like us to know? I have no intentions of actually playing with this character, it will only be used for going to RP events and RPing! (If I get in).

IC application:

"21st day of hell knows which month, hopefully the last one for me...
I tried to save them... I tried to stop them...
They got 'em both... they got them both and dragged them away.
Away from me. Away from home. Away from life...
I had to run away, they'd take me too. I didn't want to die. Wish I knew back then, that I couldn't live without them either...
I wonder will this ink end quicker than I will. I hope it will, I want to die...
But I can't... I can't do it, I'm too afraid. I'm afraid I won't see them after. I'm afraid there is nothing behind the walls of life.
I could still make it. I can run away. Leave this place. Leave my home, leave my love and run away.
All I have to do is open this door. Open it and run south until I get to Silverpine. I could find refugee there.
But not today-
Someone is watching me trough the window. Must be one of those filthy monsters. Who cares, he can't get in. To think such a stupid thing could turn my world upside down.
Huh, he seems to be acting weird. And he's not alone.
This has never happened before, they are actually banging on the door! The brainless freaks are trying to get in!
Oh God, I'm not ready to d-"
The page ends with spilled ink and blood. A hooded bony figure reads it trough again and asks a wizardy looking human:
-So you're saying this was me? This is my diary?
The man nods and smiles:
-Now we had a deal, mind holding up your e-
Hooded being quickly slits the wizards throat and cleans his knife on the deadman robes. He throws the diary into an open fire whispers to himself:
-Gee, never thought I was such a wimp!

Leaving a line blank between every sentence is a cheap trick to make your story seem longer.
No pass from me, I found it decidedly lacking in most aspects.

I actually did it for it to be more easily read. Though if you want to read a wall of text, be my guest.

Not a single writer leaves a line between each sentence, for good reasons. It indicates a shift of viewpoint, the view of a different storyline within a chapter or the skipping of a period of time. In no case does it make for easier reading, because your eyes isolate the sentences because of said spaces.
This makes it much harder for the reader to consider the separate phrases as a collective story.
Besides, I sincerely doubt you can call up and around two hundred words a wall of text, more like an effortless attempt at an application.

The diary parts should have been read the way it was originally posted and I just finished the same way, because it looks better to me. It's easier to read for me like that, personal preference. And you keep talking about the length of the application. I am aware that this is no masterpiece and nothing special at all, I haven't been sitting trough the night to think it up, I wrapped this thing up in 5 minutes. Even though, that doesn't make the quantity any more important. Either you wrote a really long application to get in and feel like everyone else should do the same, or do you think that quantity is more important the quality? (Not saying there can't be both)

I grow weary of having to repeat this every second application, but your story is the thing we judge an applicant on, as it reflects so much things about the character and the writer. A short story stands as a testament of the few effort put into said story, and thus the weak desire to join the cult.
I am not saying you should write a litany of linguistic adeptness that takes eons to read - although we greatly appreciate such - but without anything of substance, we can't make any comments of substance, neither can we make any decisions of substance.
Quality and quantity are terms not native to literature, and trying to use them as such will only have sporadic success at best. A writer can write four marvelous sentences of text, and so we can conclude that that person is indeed a good writer, but four sentences will not shed any light on said writer's character.
And I indeed wrote a long application - which you would have known if you made any effort outside of your spare five minutes - but since when is this topic about me? Last time I checked, you were the applicant.

Topic isn't about you or your application, doesn't mean we can't talk about it.

Anyway, all you said is true enough and I can understand how does it look from the other side. Yet I want to explain why did I write it like this. Last time I applied (A year ago or somewhere around that) I wrote an application that created a pretty specific character. That seemed fine, but when it actually came to real time roleplaying with other people in WoW, that's not the character I wanted to roleplay. So this time I didn't want to reveal too much about his current characteristics, in case the same thing happens. You know, somewhat a test run of the character before deciding anything particular. So this application was only written do what the rules require - write an application. Though it seems that the whole applying system has raised the bar a little, and that's great. I'll try writing something more specific.

I am wholeheartedly relieved that someone actually comprehends why we have to whine and complain so much! As to the problem you had earlier, character development is the answer. Maybe because your character encountered the cult, or met a certain personality, his views and traits are in flux? Use the community to shape your character to your wishes, WoW is your playground.
You have disproven me of any doubts I may have had about you, I pass this.
Also looking greatly forward to your story.
