Foolish! How could he have been this foolish?!
The undead plague was no news to him, why would it be when he himself forced his scourge prisoners to admit this attrocity.
For he once was a noble priest, sworn to service the light in any way necesary, stooping at nothing and seeing no harm in tormenting the unliving lieutenants with the might of the holy words.
For their cause was just, they were blessed by the holy light itself in order to service it to their utmost best, having these ideas made his downfall even worse.
For one day, he too started coughing, he had to stop for a breath after climbing one stair, he had to forsake his duties in the dungeons because the sickness only got worse and not before long his heart stopped beating.
In his final minute of anguish he could think of nothing else then of how this was possible, had he not give up his life for the light? Had he not given his all to do the righteous? And now, like never before in his life, fear held him, for he knew that his former friends would burn him soon, for it was well known what happens to those who succumb to this plague.
No beautiful grave with a marble tombstone, just a burned out fire and some ash. Gone would all evidence of his hard work and accomplishments, there would be none to remember him, his final dying scream was one of anguish.
However before the burning could take place, the town he died in was beset by the scourge. Many a talke describe how valiant it was defended and some offer even intrigueing plots to it, but just one fact matters, the entire population of Darrowshire was massacred.
Most of which were reanimated to mindlessly attack their former comrades such was the way of the scourge.
But his suffering did not mercifully end there, for an uprising was at hand in the scourge, a large part broke free from the lich king and regained their ability to think, act and unlive there lifes as they wanted.
For many this sounded great but the forsaken discovered otherwise. Hunted by their former friends and family, shunned by the living they were forced to accept this new life in solitude, for none trusted them, and their enemies were many.
He was back! But no longer was he filled with fire, instead he was often seen amongst the mindless drones that never regained their own ability to think again, where he was cursing life and death for both had taken everything from him.
In life a falsehood of belief betrayed him of a life, and now in death he had nowhere to turn to. He found his once holy powers had mutated into something foul and dark, instead of the power to heal he now could light up a being like a living candle with a snap of his fingers.
Then disaster came to Death Knell, the scarlet crusade had boldly made an outpost a mere 15 miles from the town, reports were already coming in of destroyed forsaken, hacked and blown apart by scarlet soldiers and magi.
Xanza was ordered to strike back together with many other forsaken, having gained a real objective once again he was filled with zeal as he strode with his compagnions of death.
The scarlet soon discovered the power of the forsaken, warriors, stealthy assasin and magi flooded the area, riping apart any scarlet forces in sight, one line was held together by a captain who had managed to rally his troops around him.
Seeing their chances against them the scarlets called for a truce and to negotiate release.
A black hooded forsaken stepped forward, a tome in his right hand. The words he said that day were forever burned into Xanza's mind.
Negotiation? Hah! You have been judged and the sentence has already been decided. The balance must prevail, as such you and your followers of the light shall have to perish.
From that day on Xanza had seen a new meaning for his new life, a way to put his past experiences of his former life to good use. The same skills helped them learn of other Scarlet captains in the region who could be cleansed out.
From that day on Xanza walked in the shadow.
